We never really understood what it takes to be a vendor at an outdoor market. When we visited festivals, we would just wander around, take advantage of the shops, festival food, the music, and the atmosphere. Dozens of festivals later, we have been through tent flying winds, torrential rain, unbearable heat, bone-chilling cold, and of course perfect days. Some days are super busy and other days are terribly slow. Some days we are on the road at 5am to get set up in time. Some days we don’t break down until 9pm. Some days we have three customers before we even finish setting up and other days we won’t have a single customer until we are breaking down. we never know what to expect. That is part of the thrill!
We have changed up our layout many times to try and create the most comfortable shopping experience for our customers. We also struggle with the age-old question: do we say hi or not? It’s the strangest thing. Sometimes a simple “hello” can scare people off and other times, not saying “hello” can be insulting… sigh…
Why do we keep doing this we ask ourselves? Because we LOVE making things! Jaimi is a master when working with woods, clay, cement, resin, 3d printing, laser cutting, and paint, and Lorena is a master in working with wire, metals, stones, leather, and paper. Every week, we design something new. No, not to stay relevant, but because we are always wanting to make new, even more, exciting and daring designs. We find so much joy when other people love our creations. It motivates us to keep creating.
We hope you enjoy this blog as we will keep updating it on our experiences as outdoor market vendors (and yes, sometimes indoors).
